Unfortunately providers aren't always able to organize these things due to insurance issues, staffing blah blah, but there's no law that I'm aware of that says you can't make a suggestion to the group to do just what you said. Get together to go for a movie even. A therapy group I was involved in long ago even kind of pushed that idea on us. Alot of people don't want to interact with those who know all about them in a different setting though--it makes life to livable ha-ha.
