out of the patient role

weird. I used to be burned out, low IQ, dead eyed, all that (thanks, involuntary ect).

Now, my family is behind me. They're on the upper end of white collar, middle class, so they've protected me from being committed (more than once...a lawyer is now involved).

So, at 29, I get to "recover"...but from what, really? Pills and sex and sin and mistakes and...psychiatry. My family was, apparently, too "rinky dink middle class" for my shrinks to worry about until fairly recently. Oops.

So, now I go to public mental health. They don't like to commit people if they can help it ($$$ are scarce) and they definitely leave you alone if you have people behind you, and I'm making considerable progress, so...I'm free. Free-ish, anyway. No court order, no commitment.

I'm enrolled in classes online. Not my first choice, but I'm so stigmatized around here that its probably the best thing. Plus, its affordable (non-profit, private online school). I might be done in 3 semesters (I have lots of credits already).

And when I get a degree...maybe another one? Maybe a job, off disability? Its so strange, how psychiatry can help and oppress, heal and destroy, and how I've experienced both ends of the spectrum.

Well...just some random thoughts, that's all.
